Hallowe'en Costume
« on: October 21, 2006, 09:50:26 pm »
I'm going to see a show on Oct 31, so I figured I'd better pick a costume.  Because dressing up is retarded, and I don't want to spend money, I decided to go with the same thing as Tiny from House of 1000 Corpses:

I got a white shirt, with red and black fabric paint.  I'll take a picture of it when it's done.

<edit> I tried to clear up the picture a little.  It says "Cheap All Halloween Costume"

Me and Newby might be going to a PC Deathsquad house show on the 28th, which is also a costume show.

Not sure if I can go, but I, as well, would need a costume.

I am not dressing up. I'll wear my Exodus tshirt, my ripped jeans, and shoes.

I'd bet that you're currently bloated like a water ballon on a hot summer's day.

That analogy doesn't even make sense.  Why would a water balloon be especially bloated on a hot summer's day? For your sake, I hope there wasn't too much logic testing on your LSAT.

Since when does Halloween have an apostrophe in it?

Since long before it didn't have an apostrophe.

Remember, Hallowe'en is short for All Hallows' Even(ing), and to legally remove the "v" from "evening", you have to replace it with an apostrophe.

I like to stick with the proper (fine, classic) spelling

(Wikipedia has a blurb which basically says the same thing as me[/url])

The term Halloween, and its older spelling Hallowe'en, is shortened from All-hallow-even, as it is the evening before "All Hallows' Day"[2] (also known as "All Saints' Day").
WRONG!  All Hallows means All Souls, NOT All Saints.  All Saints Day is November 1st!!!!!

Is it just me or did he not notice that November First is indeed the day after Halloween?
I'd personally do as Joe suggests

You might be right about that, Joe.

Somehow I managed to not see the phrase 'evening before' every time I read it...

Also, Hallows is derived from the Latin word for holy or something. Like in the KJV (or some translation) the Lord's prayer starts out as "Our Father who art in Heaven, hallowed be thy name". So yeah, Saint and Hallowed One are basically the same.
