Title: HUGE ICE raid nets 600
Post by: CrAz3D on August 27, 2008, 12:00:44 PM
http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080826/ap_on_bi_ge/immigration_raid

600 people detained in an ICE raid, intense.  I saw another article today that mentioned of the 160 hispanic students at a local school, half of them were absent today.

Quote"We have kids without dads and pregnant mothers who got their husbands taken away," said Velez's son, Robert, youth pastor at the church. "It was like a horror story. They got handled like they were criminals.
I chuckled at this a little.
Illegal immigration is illegal, therefore criminal.

So it's criminal to go 1mph over the speed limit?
/me chuckles

Can't wait to see how you do in law school!

It's all about dehumanizing the people, so they're no longer seen as equals. Look at how well that kind of thing worked for Hitler!

Depends if your speeding ticket is civil or not.  I think our airplane issued ones (or however the hell they work) are mailed to you and are civil proceedings.

Or maybe maintaining national sovereignty?

From your quote:
Quote"We have kids without dads and pregnant mothers who got their husbands taken away,"
You don't have to take children away from their parents to maintain sovereignty. From the little bit you've said, it sounds more like rounding people up.

What happened to, "Give me your tired, your poor / Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free"?

That sign srsly needs to be changed.

Also, I argue that they aren't yearning to breathe free, but yearning to breathe FOR free.

Aren't they generally working when they come to the US?

Yes, and usually doing jobs nobody else wanted to do in the first place.

The illegals do, yeah, it's the black people that're already here that are the HUGE financial drain.  We did a report in a class that showed illegals have little impact on the economy as a whole.  I think they only hurt us like a couple million dollars per year (over all, that doesn't mean it doesnt DESTROY some places, like the LA County Hospital).

Yup, its jobs no one WANTED ... I think we should fill those jobs with prison laborers.

It's not like we don't allow legal immigration. My problem with illegal immigration is that they're cutting in line in front of all the people patiently waiting.

WTF!?  Prison labor is brilliant.

Illegals come here and are a financial burden, and they come because there is opportunity.
Prisoners are a financial and social burden, put them to good use.

Prisoners working means the following:
-  Less opportunity for illegals, so fewer illegals
-  Legit and taxable business practices
-  Prisoners become productive
-  Companies could pay for prisoners' work (for certain work, to be regulated heavily) and that payment could go to decrease the cost of incarceration
-  Prisoners would be doing something, therefore less likely to be involved with 'on campus' violence (proven with recreational studies in prisons)

Do you see a down side?  I don't

What about when the prison takes bids on contracts for a far lower cost than real businesses? That's putting hard working (and mind you law abiding) citizens out of work.

Bad idea.

Prison labor is brilliant.

Depends on what kind. The highway I take to get to work is usually being cleaned by inmates, but that's crap because the sheriff and another officer have to supervise. That's two pig wagons idling on the side of the highway burning gas I paid for, when the state could have hired illegals for substantially less.

Troll/truth.

It's the welfare society that drains us, but I over generalized it.

They need to bring back mounted officers then.  I've seen horses here, think Texas has 'em too.

They have horses here exactly one day a year. Can you guess what day?

Hint: I grew up in Lexington.
