At my University, they named our Linux systems after birds (Unix are precious metals, Windows are unstable elements, etc). Here are a few, for example:
Host falcon.cs.umanitoba.ca (130.179.28.112) appears to be up.
Host gull.cs.umanitoba.ca (130.179.28.114) appears to be up.
Host hawk.cs.umanitoba.ca (130.179.28.115) appears to be up.
Host loon.cs.umanitoba.ca (130.179.28.116) appears to be up.
Host owl.cs.umanitoba.ca (130.179.28.117) appears to be up.
Host robin.cs.umanitoba.ca (130.179.28.118) appears to be up.
Host sparrow.cs.umanitoba.ca (130.179.28.119) appears to be up.
Host swan.cs.umanitoba.ca (130.179.28.120) appears to be up.
Host cormorant.cs.umanitoba.ca (130.179.28.121) appears to be up.
Host finch.cs.umanitoba.ca (130.179.28.122) appears to be up.
Host killdeer.cs.umanitoba.ca (130.179.28.123) appears to be up.
Host oriole.cs.umanitoba.ca (130.179.28.124) appears to be up.
Today, I noticed something funny -- they named Linux computers after every bird I can imagine, except for one: the Penguin. How silly is that? :)
haha, they need to name one ofter that :-). Talk to them about it, Im sure they can name one penguin ;D

Windows are unstable elements, etc
ROFL!
I was hoping somebody would pick up on that :)
(add .cs.umanitoba.ca to any of these)
Linux = birds (robin, hawk, dove, etc.)
Unix = precious elements (gold, silver, iron, platinum, granite, marble, etc.)
Windows = unstable elements (plutonium, uranium, neptunium, curium, protactinium, etc.)

Hah, thats great...our schools computers are all windows with the exception of a suse server.... and the one I put slackware on last year in hardware engineering...

Yep, we're almost entirely windows as well. We have two NAS servers that are *NIX, though. I'm pretty sure it's a custom distribution, though.

I had originally said "Metals", because it was gold, silver, platinum. Then I wanted to add others, so I changed it to elements without thinking. I should have said "resources".
And btw, way to make the comma bold, moron ;)

I did that on purpose, was too lazy to seperately bold the words, so since they were right next to each other, what the hell, why not.

They named computers after funny things, that's pretty nontechnical :P
Birds aren't funny :( Neither are unstable elements... they are serious business!

Is there a flamingo? They're so cool, almost as cool as penguins. :/
