General Discussion / Microsoft stole my code!
January 28, 2010, 05:14:38 PM
Not really Microsoft, but someone working for them, Clarity Consulting.

Check this out - I released "Facebook UI for ASP.NET" to open source last March under the BSD license.  Here's a link to the source browser: http://facebookui.codeplex.com/SourceControl/changeset/view/17552.  Go to /trunk/Projects/Terralever.Facebook.UI/FbmlControls/Age18Plus.cs.  Here's their source browser: http://facebooktoolkit.codeplex.com/SourceControl/changeset/view/39697 - go to /DEV/Source/Facebook.Web/FbmlControls/Age18Plus.cs.

Note:
* Same base class name (MinimumAgeControl) - not terribly surprising, but interesting nonetheless.
* <inheritdoc /> and protected internal
* The name of the constant FbmlConstants.FB_AGE_18_PLUS.

For more fun, check out MinimumAgeControl.cs and GoogleAnalytics.cs.  In MinimumAgeControl, review the CreateContents method and the Render method; in GoogleAnalytics, check out the AddAttributesToRender method.

What will I do?  I don't know.  All they didn't do was include my copyright notice.  But, it is fair to say that, this was an opportunity for my contribution to be noticed by Microsoft and maybe get recruited to work there.  That's a big opportunity cost lost.  Especially since Microsoft uses it on their site.  :)

Gaming / Halo 3: ODST
September 24, 2009, 01:26:35 AM
I really like the visual style they've taken, but in the campaign mode, some of the gameplay was unclear (for instance, what's the difference between stamina and health, and do you need to do anything to heal at a health station?)  The menus seemed pretty complicated (I remember thinking "I'm going to have trouble remembering this stuff").

Anyone play multiplayer yet?

My office intranet uses a Windows Server 2003 server for exchange and DHCP hosting.

What I'd like to do is be able to pin selected users or computers (computers would be preferable and I think the only thing that could work right) to a specific external IP range.  Supposing I have an external IP address range of 192.168.1.100-110, and I want my computer to be on 105, is it possible to do this within just Windows DHCP configuration?  Or do I need to go somewhere else?

[Sem] whispers: how do you get the blizz mount
To [Sem]: go to Blizzcon
[Sem] whispers: www.blizzcon.com
To [Sem]: [Big Blizzard Bear]
[Sem] whispers: can you sow me
To [Sem]: No, literally, go to the event
[Sem] whispers: event
[Sem] whispers: go on event
To [Sem]: wow, seriously man?
To [Sem]: there is an event... called "Blizzcon."  It's a convention.
To [Sem]: You go there... in real life...
To [Sem]: and they give you stuff
To [Sem]: like a card, that you can trade in to get the blizzcon mount, and a Starcraft 2 beta trial

Really?

General Discussion / So, this is awesome
June 16, 2009, 04:12:18 PM
Apparently, someone hit my company's servers to help spread this virus:

http://www.computerworld.com.au/article/305676/thousands_web_sites_stung_by_mass_hacking_attack?fp=4&fpid=16

One of our employees got compromised, her username and passwords for several internal and a couple external (client-owned) servers were stolen, and a number of FTP servers that she uses were broken into as well.

Ironically, she's a Mac user. :)

I'm not sure that it was exactly less than 24 hours, but pretty close....

Yesterday driving to work my right eye bugged me most of the day; I occasionally saw this funny blur out of it.  Finally after going crazy itching it a lot yesterday before I left the office, I checked and my eye was all red, and I had some dried goop (I assumed mucus) on my lower eyelash.  I wiped it off and went home.  It came back a bit later, and had spread to my left eye; by the time I went to bed, both eyes were flushing.  I woke up a couple times in the night and when I checked they were both very pink.  When I got up this morning the first thing I did was call the doctor's office for a prescription for a med, but then I took a shower and used a washcloth to get the crap off of my eyelids.

By 10:00 am this morning I was fine, my eyes seem to have cleared up.

Anyone ever have something like that?  I'm sick this week - I figured it might have been bacterial conjunctivitis (I'm on antibiotics, azithromycin 250mg, for strep).  But I've never heard of it hitting and receding so quickly.

That's right.  I haven't touched WoW.

But..... I'm thinking about doing it again.

What should I do?

General Discussion / Happy Christmas from down under!
December 24, 2008, 05:11:06 PM
And for those of you in Canada, maybe you can explain Boxing Day to me?  It was a bit of contention with my friends in Canberra, but that's ALL the commercials have been talking about.  Boxing Day this, Boxing Day that, blah blah blah blah blah, sheesh.

General Discussion / Hello from tomorrow!
December 22, 2008, 01:53:10 AM
Actually for most of you, you're going to be catching up to today fairly soon, but I'm in Canberra, Australia right now at GMT +10.

I just wanted to let everyone know that I'll be (mostly) afk for the next couple weeks.  Cheers, mate!

So I was watching House on Hulu and saw some ads for this.

I saw that it's based on a book by F. Scott Fitzgerald, who wrote one of my favorites, The Great Gatsby

Anyone read it?
