Unix / Linux Discussion / Re: Getting my network setup in slack.
« on: December 07, 2005, 01:05:46 pm »
Well, turns out my kernel has drivers for my network card. Yet, I still don't get anything. I'm going through the network portion of slackbook, www.slackbook.org

http://thesickempire.net/misc/linuxnetworkconfig.zip

Those are the files I need to edit, I've done what it's told me based on the information I got from running "ipconfig /all" in windows. Please, someone, show me what I've done wrong.

I'm a noob here, so, treat me like one. I don't want to miss anything.

You could be like me. I have no specialized subject, I just know a little about a lot.

You mean hardly useful, no matter what the situation is? =p.

I suggest Slackware as a starters distro, because we're all here to help you. However, asuming we weren't here, I'd suggest ubuntu, because it basically does everything for you. Ease of Windows, stability of UNIX. Win, win.

Slack instalation wise, is easy as fuck. I didn't get help from any of you assholes while I installed it.

<3

So, yeah, slack is a good choice.

EDIT: I've established that my network card is compatible with slackware.

Now, how do I go about installing the module into the kernel?

Yep. And whenever I install the quicktime plugin Firefox never realizes I've done so, I'll sometimes open it up in IE if I care. I generally don't. I agree, I very very rarely (maybe like, once?) see anything funny coming from that site.

That one was retaded. It was about a kid killing himself or something and then they critque his spelling? Come on.

The kid killed himself over an ugly girl. What makes it even more funny than it already is, is the fact that he announced his suicide on myspace like this:

Good riddance, if you commit suicide it's pretty obvious you had no respect for life in the first place. I feel nothing for this idiot, I do, however, feel for the people he's selfishly hurt by killing himself.

Fucking morons.

That's what I meant by it being stealing in the same sense, but for now on, I'll just say "wrongfully taking their money" just becuase you refused to think about what I meant. You're wrongfully taking their money, and you don't deserve it as well. Happy?

There's no two 'senses' of stealing, also your 'new' definition is still wrong.

Quote
Theft (also known as stealing) is, in general, the wrongful taking of someone else's property

Wow, you're not that deep, are you? Just because you didn't legally steal something, doesn't mean you didn't still steal it in that same sense.

Ooohhh, insults. I'm getting all hot.

Quote
Theft (also known as stealing) is, in general, the wrongful taking of someone else's property without that person's willful consent. In law, it is usually the broadest term for a crime against property. It is a general term that encompasses offences such as burglary, embezzlement, larceny, looting, robbery, trespassing, shoplifting, intrusion, fraud (theft by deception), and sometimes criminal conversion. Legally, theft is generally considered to be synonymous with larceny.

So, in your world, stealing has a diffrent meaning? Well, I'd like to inform you that we don't live in your world. We live in that thing called 'reality' and in reality the definition stated above holds true.

Like Warrior said, people are selling pictures. Legally. People are also selling them for a low price, which disproves any intent you had to scam them. How is it stealing when someone bids $600 on said pictures? That's right, it's not

Italics catchs your eye. ITALICS.

They might not deserve the money for not appreciating it, but you sure as hell don't deserve it for not working for your money and stealing it.

Stealing? I think you have the legal definition of stealing wrong.

The standard legal definition of stealing, theft, or in this case, larceny is as follows:

Quote
Theft/larceny is typically defined as the taking of almost anything of value without the consent of the owner, with the intent to permanently deprive him or her of the value of the property taken.

http://criminal.findlaw.com/crimes/a-z/theft_larceny.html

Now, in this case, we're dealing with money. I have full consent of the owner, and no intent to deprive him/her of what they've bought. So, it's not 'stealing' in any way shape or form.
I'm obviously not talking about the standard legal definition then, am I?

I assume then, that you pulld it directly out of your ass.

If that had happened to you, or your family, you would probably have a different attitude.

Two things, it wouldn't happen to me, at least not in this situation. And, if it happened to someone I respected/cared about I'd tell them how not to let it happen again. But, I'd still hold the same opinion on the situation.

My mom's given her credit card number over the phone, one specific example was when she was paying for sailing camp for me over the summer. It's not a big deal with a legit business.

I'm talking about the people who give it to people who tell you you're getting a free vacation, but need your credit card, to 'verify who you are'/steal your money.

My boss' eBay and PayPal accounts were suspended for no apparent reason too.  eBay said they were being used for "suspicious" activity, my boss had no idea what they were talking about.

Yeah, exactly.  So I wouldn't do anything that is risky like that :)

And Trust -- the main problem with what you did is that you may have robbed your buyer of getting the xbox he wanted.  Sure, you didn't actually take his money, but you wasted his time :P

If someone is dumb enough to bid $600 on an item that he hasen't read the description on, one has to wonder, does he actually deserve the money in the first place? If one is willing to piss away wealth so easily then they don't deserve it, nor will they have it for very long.

These are the same people that give their credit card number to people over the phone, then wonder why they're being fucked in the ass by those same people.

Fuck em'.

Actually, I think the modchip will allow for this.  IIRC it translates the instructions (same for PS2 modchip, it can translate instructions from GCN and XBox1).

Exactly why I said it's not plausible. Besides, writing the instruction set to change x86 to MIPS wouldn't be cost effective.

Entertainment District / Re: Don't buy a XBOX 360!

actually I'm pretty sure you can play PS2 games on a Xbox360 ... at least I know you can on normal Xbox... I just put in a modchip than dled some rom files and if I put in an extra hard drive POOF I can play any PS2 game out there.... end of story, GG   :P(same goes for N64 and SNES and w/e the fuck else there is including gameboy color" :o :-*

This is not plausible because the Xbox uses the x86 instruction set, and PS2 uses the MIPS instruction set. This is why you'll see the implementation of the 360's compatibilty with regular Xbox games to be spotty at best, because the 360 uses PPC cores which don't run x86.

So, in essence, you're full of shit.
