Our gowns went:
Green - 90% of class
Yellow - top 10%
Cords - 4.0+
Medal - everyone
Stupid part was no one got to keep the cord :(!

Whats even WORSE is that the school system has dropped the 'value' of AP courses to a 4.0.  So a retarded kid might take remedial everything and get a 4.0 but a kid who takes honors everything and then AP courses might get 3.8 :(.

If you're taking honors/AP for the inflated grade you're in the wrong class. I hate the weighted grade bullshit. If I saw I had a 3.0 as opposed to the 3.8 I had managed all year... I would have definitely tried harder.

GPA:3.5+ = gold cord + graduated before everyone else
silver cord = 2 years in any elective, or area of electives (I got one for two years in Engineering classes)
Pink cord = Some music club.
Medals = everyone.
Gowns: Orange = men White = women.

It's just honoring the extra-achievers.  Valedictorian, top 10%, etc.

The kids are in the AP courses to learn, but a 3.5 vs. a 3.2 makes a difference on insurance, and thing not school related.

Well you see they are weighted for that exact reason, it being that they are standardized courses. I don't know what your courses were, but my AP courses were taught by smart people and they sometimes harder than the college equivalents that they are designed to replace, at least at most state schools. MIT/Caltech/etc is a diff story.

I mean of course, chemistry/physics/calc/etc courses. Any of the more "soft subjects" rely way too much on the teacher's ability imo for it to be discussed.
