Don't expect people to research every topic you create just so they'll make sense.  If you want to start a general topic on something, it's usually pretty damn silly to not supply any background.

I don't generally pay attention to any of the big media outlets. Nor do I read what's posted here. I fail for not caring about these kinds of stupid things?

In any case, my general advice when posting a news story is to post some kind of discussion about it, or at least to give an opinion about it. That's advice and not a rule, of course, I just find that it provokes better discussion.
