They're both illegal and that's all that matters.

People who get drunk at parties don't always stay there until they sober up, people that get high at parties don't always stay they until they come down from it.  I've had to have full out fights with friends who were high / drunk so many times to let me drive them home.

Also: There's a difference between drinking, and driving under influence.  Just like there's a difference between smoking pot, and driving high.  People who engage in A may do B, but that doesn't mean A is just as bad as B.
