Put them all on the scale at once, and remove one barrel at a time until the number % 2 == 0

No.  It's the equivolent of stepping on a scale and then taking off your shirt.  As long as you never get wholly off the scale, it's only 1 weighing.

There's a BIG RED BUTTON on the scale.  You put stuff on the scale, and press it.  It tells you the current weight, and it will never work again.
