Why did microsoft pick com as the extension for a excutable? They are tricky to new people who don't know what they are doing on the internet.

Why did microsoft pick com as the extension for a excutable? They are tricky to new people who don't know what they are doing on the internet.

Com existed well before domains with ".com" on them.  Making commercial domain names ".com" was a really dumb decision.
