My screen backlight has gone out, the power cord broke, the right hinge holdy-openy-thing broke a few months ago & today the otherside broke.  So now, it doesnt stay open at all, just falls closed (or way open).

I have it held open by a balloon stick and duct tape, this is pretty sweet, too bad I cant close it

Nothin' wrong with that. Send 'er my way.

I'd bet that you're currently bloated like a water ballon on a hot summer's day.

That analogy doesn't even make sense.  Why would a water balloon be especially bloated on a hot summer's day? For your sake, I hope there wasn't too much logic testing on your LSAT.

My fathers old one made a lot of noise when opening and closing.  It was really annoying.   :-\
And like a fool I believed myself, and thought I was somebody else...

CrAz3D

I just need to figure out how to make it so I dont have to always tape the stick thingy back on...

iago

Can't you send it in for warranty?  Hooray for 4 year warranty on mine.

I've still had very minimal problems (nothing exceptional at all) on my HP.  Guess you got a crappy one :)

MyndFyre

I was going to say - did you take my advice and get the extended warranty?

I have a programming folder, and I have nothing of value there

Running with Code has a new home!

yeah, I have a 3 year warranty which will last for another 2 years...its just the problem of not having a computer for 4-6 weeks (thats what they told me last time the other hinge broke.

i have stuff for school to do and this is my only computer

iago

Yeah, being without a computer sucks.  That's why I dropped $250 and got a cheap-o computer.  The cheap-o computer was the one I took to school all the time, because if it got broken or stolen I wouldn't be as upset.  It's also the one I used while my good one was away for warranty work.

hmm, I've thought about getting a desktop, now might be the time.

but there is no need for 2 machines...I'd just have to keep them both updated & stuff.

*sigh*, ill just go in and ask them about it and mention that I need something for school, maybe theyll be nice (since I've had a few problems now) & let me drop this POS & get some money back & Ill get something different

Sidoh

I like my desktop because it's more comfortable to work on.  The display is also much nicer and the lack of sweaty balls is also nice.

true...but the portability of a laptop is sweet.

i can take it to work, school, home, friends' houses....my desktop would just sit there (which is why I got a very functional laptop, portable desktop)

pfft,stupid thing

rabbit

I've got a bunch of POS boxes here.  If all you need is something for word processing/internet while your laptop is being repaired, I guess I could send you one.

You can plug a keyboard/mouse/monitor into a laptop. It's what I did during the time that my PSU was fried.

Find a place that can do HP warranty work and see if you can convince them to just swap your HDD into a new machine if yours has such serious problems.  It might actually make more sense financially for HP too.
