As My Ukulele Gently Weeps
« on: September 16, 2006, 09:42:07 pm »
Clicky

Basically, master ukulelist(made up word) Jake Shimabukuro plays his rendition of the Beatles song "As My Guitar Gently Weeps" on his ukulele.

It owns. Seriously, I think I prefer this version to the original.
The writ of the founders must endure.

That guy has some incredible talent.  I really think he is wasting it on the ukelele.

It sounded great, but I still much prefer the wider acoustic range the guitar offers :)

The website that comes from has some cool stuff.

I like the guy that does weird metal ukelele covers... especially iron maiden's fear of the dark ukelele style. He even does the solo, which is totally nuts to see/hear played on a ukelele. The guy rocks, but he totally can't sing.

I listened to this awhile ago, and yes, Jake Shimabukuro is a talented musician.  But the problem is, in his rendition of "While My Guitar Gently Weeps," something gets lost in translation, at least, I think.

He did make it sound epic, though.

There was a post earlier up which I'm too lazy to quote about it "being a waste on a ukulele".. I dunno if that's a fair thing to say at all. How often do you see some song being jammed out on a ukulele? Personally, I think it adds a very unique twist to the song which magnifies its greatness. :P

I don't know, maybe it's just the rappers north of the mason dixon that use ukulele's.
