I told a lot of you last night, most of the people I saw online, but for everybody else's benefit I'll post it here, too.  And a full version of it.

Yesterday, I got fired.  Sort of. 

What happened was, my company (Great White North) was a partnership, between Terry and Geoff. Terry was the software/programming guy, and Geoff was the service/hardware guy.  Apparently, they had constant disagreements about which direction the company was going in.

A month or two ago, Geoff left, and took an employee (hardware guy) with him, leaving Terry, another salesguy, and 4 or 5 programmers (depending on how you count them).  The split-up seemed mutual, and everything was working out.  Although they were split up, they were still legally partners, and both owned half the company. 

Last week, something happened.  I'm not entirely sure what, but it was between Terry and Geoff, and resulted in the bank accounts getting locked and basically forcing the company to shut down.  Terry says it was something Geoff did, and I'm sure Geoff would say it's something Terry did.  So whatever. 

As a result, Terry started a new company, with almost the same name (Great White North Software Solutions, as opposed to Great White North Computer Systems).  He fired us from the original company and re-hired us to his new company instantly.  And the new company is incorporated, and isn't a partnership.  Terry owns it 100%. 

The main benefit, other than being able to keep my job, is that my holidays are re-set as of today, so any time off I took before this week (St Paul, camping, etc.) are void, and I get to have my 3 weeks over again.  Other than that, everything should continue on as usual. 

I'll let you guys know (because I'm sure SOMEBODY here cares) if anything more develops.

We have 7 people, including the owner, so yes, job security is a risk. 

However, I don't mind.  If I lost my job tomorrow, I'd survive. I live at home and pay minimal bills.  I don't have a car or house or debts.  So worst case, I'd go find another job. 

On the other hand, if the company goes well, I'll be sitting at the top.  That's good too.
