Hugo's House of Horrors

HHofH is a free download now, and runs well in dosbox on Windows and Linux (and probably everything else).

Hugo's House of Horrors was made in 1991, which happens to be the same year I got my first computer.  It's the first game I ever played on a computer, and it was the coolest thing ever.  While playing that, 15 years ago, is when I realized that I wanted to learn how to make something like that.

So basically, HHofH was what inspired my first interest in programming. 

This is a meaningless random-thought.  But I installed dosbox this weekend and re-beat the game (after 15 years, I only remembered a couple bits of it).  And it felt good to play it again.

The graphics reminded me of an old game I used to play, Monster Bash.

I remember playing old Wolfenstien on floppy disc, back in the day. Not even a year ago, I found that same disc, with some of my high scores. I proceeded to play for a good portion of that day, and beat said scores. Very satisfying reminiscence.

I remember playing Monster Bash, but if it's the same one I'm thinking of it's nothing like HHofH.  This is more like Quest for Glory and other Sierra adventure games.  But only a little. 

And Towelie, given time I could, for sure.  But I don't specialize in game programming, there's no way I could come up with a story or draw the graphics.  I don't have those kind of skills.

Blakestone, Rise of the Triad and Dukem were my first PC games.  First video game was Mario for NES.  :)  Good times.

Blake Stone was awesome. I still can't get the cheat codes to work for that damn game. All I remember was you had to type something as the boot screen flashed.... and I could never do it. :/
