Apple is way over rated.

People buy for the following reasons:
1) They want to be non-conformist so they conform to Apple's minimalist image/the 'pop culture'
2) They (for some reason that is BEYOND me) think Microsoft is evil.  I mean sure they nearly have a monopoly, but that's just good ol' American business right there
3) They think (this is more for the libs) Apple is a more friendly company. I recall reading a story (I'll see if I can't find it in a bit) about Apple having horrible pollution and not cleaning it up
4) They don't realize that Apple rapes people on charges
5) They don't realize that Apple forces you to use their crap when PC's are MUCH more customizable
6) They don't care to learn linux

All in all, it's a hugely lame conforming society of "coolness."  College kids trying to be "in" and old people trying to look young.

Whether or not what you are saying has any truth to it, is provocative, or ignorant, it is one of your most thoughtful posts that I've read.  :)

As far as the bluetooth comment, it's much more cost efficient on both ends to buy a $20 FM transmitter. It attaches right to your headphones port, and with the addition of a $5 iPod wrist strap (for running), it attaches very nicely to your MP3 player. Even more cost efficient would be a $5 "cassette with a tail" thing, but cassette tape players are being phased out in cars so that may not be applicable, but mine has one and it works just fine for me.

Sure, KDE is all eye-candy-ish, like Aqua and Quartz (OSX Window Managers), but the underlying kernel is just as powerful. With minimal patching, like I said in a different thread, most Linux and BSD software can be run on MacOS X.

Why would I buy a car with Bluetooth and try to be 'cost efficient' on the mp3 player?

FM Transmitters (especially the cheap ones, like Belkin's) are tricky. I had the more expensive Belkin one (black one) but never used it/lost it. So I bought the white one and that's what I use now, but it's very hard to get a clear signal without any crackle or interference. I have to constantly move it around and it's just a hassle, it's probably better to go ahead and pay the $75 or so for a decent one. Two of my friends have those and they are very reliable.

And iPods don't have bluetooth natively so you'd have to get an external adapter anyway, which takes away from the sleekness. But whatever.

Anyway I'd been having a problem with my new Samsung monitor and my Macbook. It worked fine (after some minor setting adjustments) on Windows and that's what I'm posting from now. (It's still easier to browse the web from my PC due to the external mouse/keyboard) Anyway, apparently the Macbook doesn't support mirroring it's display above a resolution of 1280x800, and the monitor runs at 1440x900 so the colors and resolution were pretty FUBAR. It looked bad because the record on the turntable in my wallpaper was a bright (and very vibrant/deep, I must add. +1Samsung) greed, instead of the goldish color it's supposed to be. There isn't an option on the Macbook to run it while it's closed, so I have to do a workaround by closing the lid (putting it to sleep) and then waking it up with the Apple remote. After that it just runs with the Samsung as the main monitor and everything looks fine (still a little color difference, but that's because it's different LCD panels so whatever.) It's kind of a hassle but I'm mainly using the monitor for PC since I don't have an external mouse/keyboard for my Mac yet. I'll be purchasing the Bluetooth ones soon though. I'm trying to decide if I should get them now from the store or wait until I'm about to leave for school. Or alternatively from eBay but then I don't get the warranty. :\

P.S. I wish they processed their rebate faster, I need that $300. The keyboard/mouse will cost around $120, plus I need to buy a new camera and my beerpong table. Good thing my birthday is soon.

You realize that those were in two differen catagorys, Mac was in "Electronics," while Microsoft was in "Internet/Software."

We all know the internet's a series of tubes, and that tubes don't hurt the environment, but washing your electronics, and circut borads causes polution. Duh.
