Fantastic Contraption
« on: August 12, 2008, 10:22:54 pm »
I wasted too much time on this today.

This is a really fun physics type puzzle game, which basically lets you construct stuff in order to move a block/ball to a goal.

Reminds me a lot of Sierra's The Incredible Machine, which was one of my favourite games.

God, I thought this said "fantastic contraception" and my only thought was "what? a curb stomping? drano?"

I'd bet that you're currently bloated like a water ballon on a hot summer's day.

That analogy doesn't even make sense.  Why would a water balloon be especially bloated on a hot summer's day? For your sake, I hope there wasn't too much logic testing on your LSAT.

I had fun with a lot of them, but I spent the most time on the last one by quite a bit (~3 hours).  I think I probably could have done better, but I spent a ton of time making lots of small tweaks to get it to work.  If i changed too much too fast it would completely break :P

(4am probably didn't help either)
http://FantasticContraption.com/?designId=509270
I'll go back and see if I made it too complicated after I get some sleep!

Man, you guys have contraptions that actually do important stuff. I was trying my hardest to get the damn ball to the pink box.

One must ask oneself: "do I will trolling to become a universal law?" And then when one realizes "yes, I do will it to be such," one feels completely justified.

The one level with the ball, I built like a plank ontop of the ball and balanced the little ball and moved the big ball across. It was awesome.

The others I made like a car and shit to get them across.

I had just finished tube, so it was fresh in my mind and thought I could make a car that would climb up, fall right, then swing into the goal on a leash.  Unfortunately it became increasingly complex when I couldn't get the car to fall the right way and ended up making minor tweaks for about 2 hours :P

I beat all the levels after a little bit of time. Here's my solution to unpossible:

http://FantasticContraption.com/?designId=714744

I was initially trying to build a launcher (out of what is now the drawbridge), but when that failed due to the chain's weight, I had to settle for this. It's not that awesome, but I like it.
