The bottom line is that phone cables and network cables are both twisted-pair cables. They have different ends, sure, but they're still interchangeable. At work I was confused++ to find a phone line running into a network patch panel. I had no idea that phone calls could go through patch panels!

For what phones?I only saw a phoneline from the ground (which eventually runs to the phone company's box) running into a patch panel which, once we checked, went across the street.
Haha nice. When I left, they were just starting to architect some VOIP stuff. Because Manitoba is such a large network, there are a lot of security risks and stuff, so it takes a lot of research and planning to get it going.
