General Programming / About to dig into Python
« on: December 30, 2007, 04:47:42 am »
So I am deciding to dig into Python now, just bought a $30 Python 2.5 book, has close to 1000 pages. Pretty interesting. I can't be bothered to learn C/C++ and Python seems right in my department as I love hack, crack, web dev. Plus I think I love the fact that Python is interpretive and dynamically typed.

I am in rut as far as what project I could do....suggestions? (nothing web dev related)

Also what kind of FPS is this? Killing forest animals? I've taken shits more interesting than this concept.

Reminds me of Duck hunt I can play on my TI 83+ Calculator...I wonder which will be more entertaining...Oh wait! It's Joe, he'll stop after writing his first loop.

Unix / Linux Discussion / Microsoft Hires Gentoo Linux Founder
« on: June 14, 2005, 12:02:10 pm »
http://www.betanews.com/article/Microsoft_Hires_Gentoo_Linux_Founder/1118760578

The founder and former chief architect of Gentoo Linux, a so-called meta-distribution of Linux known for its adaptability, has joined the ranks at Redmond. Microsoft hired Daniel Robbins in late May, and he in turn has transferred Gentoo's intellectual property to the non-profit Gentoo Foundation.

"I'm helping Microsoft to understand Open Source and community-based projects," Robbins said regarding his move into the belly of the beast. Robbins had already taken a back seat role at Gentoo, which has established a strong developer and user community to rely upon.

New Project Announcements / Code name: "Vanquish Chat"
« on: May 18, 2005, 01:16:56 pm »
This is the code name for the bot itself mostly because we haven't thought of one but we wanted to call it something for now. Anyhow this project is a dual project between WiReS and myself and we are currently looking for ideas throughout the community.

This is just some of the stuff we have or are looking forward to currently:
- Full support of all clients through BNLS and a hashed connection. Our BNLS connection is a secure connection as we use BNCSutil.dll to hash all passwords and cdkeys while using BNLS' core features that require absolutely no hash files.
- Full MCP support
- Customizable colors for all chat events (There are limitations but it's overall pretty customizable)
- All the basic features of a chat bot. (Mostly optional stuff and settings)
- The ability to load multiple profiles and a multiple sockets for those profiles so only one executable is required for all your chatting needs.

Other features we wish to impliment are classified to some extent. This is hardly completed and only connects and shows events properly. This is somewhat of a branch of PiAnKA and I's "Mario Chat" however much more cleaner (10x). I'd love to hear what suggestions you have for things you've always wanted or think a chat bot SHOULD have. No suggestion will go unturned.

As for information about beta testing. We have agreed that it will only extend out to our clan (x86). Thus x86 members only will recieve a beta whenever it's due. A release date isn't known but probably in 3 - 4 weeks I am assuming as summer is coming.

Graphics / The "How-to"
« on: April 24, 2005, 11:45:02 am »
How do you become generally good at creating graphics?
The fact is practice makes perfect. There's no real way to just become good, you need to develop your own technique and experiment a lot.

I want to get good like you said but how?
No one was born knowing (except me :P) how to create good looking fancy pancy graphics or even nice looking simplistic ones. There are a plethora of sites which you can look at but one that puts them altogether and its focus is primarily in Adobe Photoshop is http://www.good-tutorials.com/.

Ok, I am good now but I just suck at creativity...
One approach to this is to look at other high graphics sites, banners, signatures and attempt to do them or simply take ideas here and there and try them out for yourself. It's often surprising what you can learn by just looking around. You'll find once you become somewhat good that those highly abstract graphics you once thought were amazing are fairly simple in steps. One great place is http://clantemplates.com/. Just get inspired.

Now I am so elite!
Well you think you're leet sauce now huh? With graphics there can always come criticism and the only way to become better is to take the criticism in good light so post things you create and get feedback. The best thing about it is you find what other people think which helps you create something much better and more appealing to  an audience. One person I recommend and always will is: Quik. If your the type of person that can't take it than you're a pussy and you should take it like a man (if you're a women take it like man DAMMIT!). Another option is to try other things out. For example if your great at signatures try create a website layout. Switch things around and become better at things you suck at.

Alright I am bored with photoshop and graphics, ugh!
Your best bet is to simply just learn something new. Perhaps flash. Flash is always fun. :). Hell if your doing photoshop, do some tinkering with image ready.
