i dunno. i signed up by going to worldofwarcraft's site, which directed to me my battle.net account. the downloaded program and everything worked fine, but their site was running a little slow.

About the beta? Where'd you hear this? Why the announcement on a seemingly random day? Unless there's something going on tomorrow that I don't know of, which is very possible. heh

Well, Blade was correct. They released a small amount of new info today. The info that I read was not good, though - no LAN support.

The plan right now is to have Lan-like play, just you need to connect to Battle.Net 2.0 to do it.  This is 100% to prevent piracy, and I'm quite unsure it will even do that.
