2 million people are in central Cairo calling for their "president", who has rules for 30 years, to step down. There would be even more, except the government ordered streets blocked and the trains shut down to try and control things.

People are handing out food, supplies, taking care of garbage, cleaning up litter, etc, and have been for weeks. Last I heard, the president and many of the rich business class have fled the country.

The government has shut down the Internet, telephone systems, and other communication mediums to try and quell this uprising, but people have found ways to organize anyways. Nothing warms my heart like citizens telling their government to go f*** themselves, especially in a peaceful way.

I can't wait until the next American Revolution which will probably be more like a civil war.

I do not believe it is possible for America to have a revolution.
And like a fool I believed myself, and thought I was somebody else...

It's possible, just not likely to happen in my lifetime.

I agree.
Most people can talk about revolution and whatnot but things never get done.

Truth. The government has all the big guns and would not be afraid to use it (see: Civil War 1) to make sure shit doesn't happen. Add to this a passive population that would rather watch stories about Britney Shithead than about politics that affect their lives and you now have ignorance. Nothing is going to happen anytime soon.

Yeah, the population is a) very placated, and b) always fighting each other. As long as those are both happening, they aren't going to revolt no matter how bad things get.

I just read their president is going to step down when his current term is up (I'm unsure when that is).

Yeah, but that's in September, and the opposition leaders aren't accepting this concession.

He's also 80+, and from what I was hearing on Al Jazeera, he probably wasn't going to run in the next election anyway, so it's kind of a empty promise.

They've waited 30 years, whats a few months? After all, as I understand it, this is basically another Iran thing. The extremists are taking over.

iago

I think it's more than the single guy, too, it's about how the country's run.

CrAz3D

You mean by the United States?...

Sidoh

BRING BACK THE PHARAOH

at least their slaves built some cool shit.

CrAz3D

Hellz yeah! And then we can have Moses come back and have sandals and robes in fashion!
