There is a common English word that is nine letters long. Each time you remove a letter from it, it still remains an English word - from nine letters right down to a single letter. What is the original word, and what are the words that it becomes after removing one letter at a time?

iago

Therefore
Herefore
Herefor
Hereor
Heror
Hero
Her
He
H

:(

trust

H isn't a word.

You don't necessarily have to remove the last letter in the word.

iago

I didn't.

And I knew I was wrong, that's why I made a sad face. :P

You still haven't answered.  What's the words between?

And incidentaly, I'm going to make more than one guess: www.javaop.com/~iago/9.txt.  Is one of them right?

BOOO! Google has become to useful of a tool.
I am prepared to be ridiculed for what I believe, are you?

iago

Yeah, I try to re-word mine so they don't exactly match the online versions that I'm sure are out there

[edit] incidentallly, I wouldn't consider "startling" a "common English word" :P
