Yeah mate. Its better in KDE (I was running it in GNOME), but I think I'm sticking with Firefox.

You might be right about that, Joe.

Hmm, on this forum I use alt-s to submit :)

MyndFyre

It's odd.  What got me to first give Linux a try was how well I thought KDE was put together after using it in the math lab at school.

Now FC4 starts with Gnome.  I don't know how to change it over to KDE... but I don't think I want to, either.  :)

If I had to pick one of them, I'd go with Gnome.  But no thanks!

If you like the look and feel of Gnome, though, you should try xfce.  It's a lot like Gnome, but much much lighter on resources.  I really liked using xfce when I used it.

Joe

MyndFyre, in Ubuntu, I simply did sudo apt-get install kde, and it handled downloading depdancies and everything. Do you have some sort of apt-get program in your distro?

yes, Fedora invented apt-get.  It was stolen by Ubuntu :P

I think he means, how do you change the Window Manager?

Edit .xinitrc to my knowledge! :)

echo "startkde" > ~/.xinitrc
echo "fluxbox" > ~/.xinitrc
echo "wmaker" > ~/.xinitrc

I'd bet that you're currently bloated like a water ballon on a hot summer's day.

That analogy doesn't even make sense.  Why would a water balloon be especially bloated on a hot summer's day? For your sake, I hope there wasn't too much logic testing on your LSAT.

I believe that xinitrc is only used on Slackware.  But I could be wrong about that :P

Newby

Well, X initiation run commands.

And there is an .xinitrc on my FreeBSD box, so =P!

What it stands for has absolutely nothing to do with which platforms use it in their startx script.

I thought I read somewhere that it was Slackware-specific, but apparently it's not.  Oh well!

KDE is installed.  I just don't know how to change to it.  But like I said, I don't think I want to, either.  Gnome is pretty good.

Gnome is crap. xfce (lightweight GNOME gnome lookalike IMO) or KDE for life.

(Actually, KDE or Fluxbox for life. But who's counting? :P)

Look at what I said to try out KDE. ;)
