Was Frodo a failure?

Some reguard Frodo from Lord of the Rings as a failure, while others as a hero. What do you think?

People who say he was a failure:
- Left the fellowship behind after passing through Moria
- Trusted Gollum, who was planning to kill him the whole time
- Tried to keep the ring for himself

People who say he was a hero:
- Left the shire with the ring, knowing he was doomed to be killed.
- Realized there were things worse than death (torture, becoming a wraith himself), but kept going
- Carried the ring all the way from the shire to Mordor, still intent on distroying it.

I personally think that he was a hero, although all heros need a little help sometimes too (Sam). What do you think?
