I just want more variety.  Just like I'll give Hitmen's necro the 3 groups for diablo 2 (curses, poison, maybe bone, and resurrection, but not summoning elementals).

That's a Hunter.  I suppose that seems pretty valid as a Druid, though I don't think it should have the ability to attack.  I think it should be something like a Hawk/Falcon, something that spies on stuff for you.

I was thinking of that, and I was planning on calling it an "Animal Companion", after the D&D thing.

Alternatively, it could be a "familiar".

I can give you a choice of a couple dozen animals (I have a huge list), and you can pick whatever you want.  The warning is, certain animals (like eagles) are worth a lot of money to people, so you don't want one like that.

I had another thought...

You should pick the character class Saurian.  That's lizard-people.  It would suit your animal companion quite well, since you'd both be reptilian-ish.  Plus, they're one of the better classes for mages or warrior-mages.
