Joe

Alright, so over Christmas Vacation this upcoming year, I might want to go to either Mexico or Canada (probably Canada) just for the hell of it. I'm planning to apply for a lifeguarding job in Wisconsin Dells when I turn 16 (September 25th), and starting wage is about $8. I've sorted out the hours I could work and they added up to 24, so from there, simple math.

8 x 24 = $192 per week

Assuming four weeks per month, roughly, $192 x 4 = $668.

Assuming three months from the end of September to the end of December, 3 x $668 = $2004.

From there, I'd like to assume it's roughly 1000 miles from Madison to Winnipeg. At 30 miles per gallon and $3 per gallon, that'd be about $1 for 10 miles, and $100 for 1000 miles. Naturally, I have to get home too, so it'll be $200.

So after paying income taxes, which my dad said was roughly 33%, I'll have roughly $1350. Pay gas prices and have $1150. Pay insurance and have somewhat around $1000 spending money left when I'm in Canada.

Does anyone see a ridiculous error in my math, beyond the fact that I'm obviously going to spend a bit of the money I'm supposed to be saving up?

You might be right about that, Joe.

MyndFyre

The fact that you'd assume you can make 30mpg.  GLHF.

I have a programming folder, and I have nothing of value there

Running with Code has a new home!

I'll be driving an Oldsmobile Intrigue 2003(?). I think it gets 25-30mpg highway, which the majority of the trip would be. Really, I just used 30 instead of 20 for easy division by 3 (I was doing this pencil-and-paper).

You really need to look into that. If you're a beginning driver and you can find insurance for 150 then -please- hook me up.

Can't fool a FoOoL

Joe

Per month, added on to my parents plan? 80 per month, and my parents said they'd pay half. So, does $40 do it for you?

Don't forget to subtract tax from what you earn, and add it to what you're planning to spend.

And incidentally, right now I have more money than I know what to do with, so if somebody wants to come by for a weekend, we can have some fun :)

Cars.com says the Intrigue gets 30mpg highway
I'd figure on 25 at most just to be safe.

I assume you guys have indoor pools there?

Hit iago & his hooker money up & tap some Canadian............................

MAPLE TREES!  To get maple syrup silly!

We have both indoor and outdoor pools.  Tomorrow's expected high is 35C, which is 95F.  With humidex, it'll be about 42C (107F) of damp humid heat.  So outdoor pools are useful.

They're Canadians.  Nothing's cold to them.

Yes, in spring and fall we have great weather.  But being in the dead center of the prairies with no mountains or water nearby, whatever nature feels like doing hits us hard.

We only have really bad weather (lower than -40C/-40F or higher than 30C/86F) for a couple weeks on either side.  And right now, we're within those couple weeks on the summer side.

It's about 100F for most of the summer near Philly, not including humidity (there's a lot).  It's really not that bad.
