Name that computer! (Joe version)

Joe

I have two computers that need to be named. Both Apple iMacs -- a red one with Ubuntu and a blue one with Slackintosh.

Name them! :)

I think one might get named Religione, to go along with this one's name, Scienza.

You might be right about that, Joe.

Joe

I've thought of a new naming scheme.

Desktop: earth (powerful but heavy)
Blue Computer: water (blue!)
Red Computer: fire (red!)
Laptop (eventually): air (light)

But, of course, in Italian, the language of science. :). Terra, acqua, fuoco, aria.

If there was a "Language of Science," it would be mathematics...

If you're referring to the names used in classifying animals, that's Latin...

How lame. :(

Name them "vagina," "penis," "nipples," etc.

I'd bet that you're currently bloated like a water ballon on a hot summer's day.

That analogy doesn't even make sense.  Why would a water balloon be especially bloated on a hot summer's day? For your sake, I hope there wasn't too much logic testing on your LSAT.

Hahaha...

I usually name my computers after geeky or kind-of-geeky characters in books, etc.  deepthought is my server, muaddib is windows on my desktop, shaihulud is linux on my desktop (both from Dune), benediction is windows on my laptop, anathema is linux on my desktop (got the idea from an item in WoW, but I like the words in general).

Dude...how could you leave out Stilgar?  I demand you buy another computer and name it Stilgar RIGHT NOW!

Haha.  That seems like a better name than shaihulud... perhaps I'll rename it. :P

Uhm, I name mine all violent / band related things. "impaler" and "overkill" are the only two active boxes; my router is named "zombie" from the Death song "ZOMBIE RITUAL!"

There was a lot of debate in Angels and Demons as to what the language of science is, mostly taking place at CERN. They arrived at the conclusion that the language of science is English, as most modern day theories are stated in English and translated from that when need be. However, I just find that Italian is more.. cool.. than English. For example, I like the words Religione and Scienza better than Religion and Science, but that's just me. It flows better would be the best way to put it, I guess.

No. My parents use the network too. I doubt they'd be able to tell what my computers are named, but all around, I wouldn't name my computers that. For example, in school if I'm talking to another Linux user (theres a few), imagine this conversation:

Other person: Hey, what's your hostname?
Joe: penis.
* Other person walks away.

Yum, anathema. You should have named the windows installation Anathema and named Linux Benediction, because Benediction is the holy staff and Anathema is the shadow staff. :)

I doubt the other linux users have a clue what a hostname is. They probably use Ubuntu.

Angels and Demons is a fiction book.  I'm going to bash your skull in if you think that English is even close to being "the language of science."  Itallian doesn't make the cut either.  Just because you think words in the dictionary for that language sound cool doesn't make it "The Language of Science."  Mathematics is the best canidate available... hands down.

REALLY?  HOLY SHIT!  I HAD NO IDEA EVEN THOUGH I PLAYED A PRIEST FOR OVER A YEAR!  OMIGOD!!!

The meanings of the words are more what compelled me to choose them as names, though...

QuoteAnathema: 1. to be formally set apart, 2. banished, exiled, excommunicated or 4. denounced, often misinterpreted to mean accursed

QuoteBenediction: blessing: the act of praying for divine protection
a ceremonial prayer invoking divine protection

You can turn this into a Linux vs. Windows debate, but I can see reasons that either name is appropriate for either operating system.  I don't really care what you think.  I named them as I did and I have no intention of changing them.

Joe

I know that Angels and Demons is a fiction book! I was simply saying that there was a debate in there. Random fact plugged into the conversation, and nothing more. But whatever.

And you must not have seen the joke behind that. Anathema goes with Windows because they're both shadowy and unholy, and the opposite with Benediction.

Then don't use it as justification for your stupid claim.
