Evil Internet
« on: January 20, 2007, 08:03:43 pm »
My internet was slow all week, but now it's back to normal speed.  The problem now is that I can't resolve some sites, which other people say are up.  It's weird too, because it goes in and out.  At one point I was connected to IRC and I could browse the site's forums, but later on the forums wouldn't resolve at all, but I could still chat on IRC, up until I disconnected (this has actually happened a couple of times).  I've flushed my DNS repeatedly, reset my base station and my router, and now I've run out of ideas.  I need help.

Have you tried using 4.2.2.2 and 4.2.2.1 as DNS servers? Not sure if they're still up.

The same thing happens to me. Who is your ISP?

I have Cox and I have periods where my internet just drops, or gets really slow, and then other times it's really fast. I often have trouble resolving x86, but it's weird. Sometimes it will work on my laptop but not desktop (same network) and other times neither.

Something else I'd recommend that may help out, is straightening your cables. If there's knots in them, or they're twisted up a bit, forming little circles, that could cause problems. It's most likely the ISP though. I remember a while back, I used to have constant problems with Cox, but they eventually went away, so they probably fixed some crap.

I'm using Verizon :\

I'll try setting the DNS servers though.

HAH!  Changing my DNS servers worked perfectly, thanks.

Yeah, I often have issues with my ISP's DNS servers, but I've never had problems with 4.2.2.1-8.  Whenever I set up a computer I always set those for DNS.
