Even when I was working at a web development company, I was using vim for all my Web page editing. I never had a problem doing complicated layouts with a text-editor. I actually found it easier because I knew exactly what everything did, so if there was a weird problem (like an extra gap between elements), I was much more likely to be able to track it down. If it was something tricky, I would often make all the different areas brightly colored, which would visually show me what was going on.
But anyway, the rest of the guys at work used Dreamweaver, which is why I recommend it. Text-editors aren't for everybody's needs.
