Can someone give me the tl;dr version?

His friend gets turned into a computer by the government, and secretly hacks himself to be awesome, then escapes.  He changes his friend (the person telling the story) into the same, they both get captured by the government.  He refuses to do anything for them, so they let them go and pay them to keep quiet.  He moves to Africa.  The End.
Thanks for turning a really good story into a pile of ass. With none of the actual important details.

General Programming / [Java] Competitive RPG
« on: June 18, 2009, 07:45:17 pm »
I am looking for a few people who know java that are willing to work with me.
I am trying to make a modular 2d game. As many of you know I am horrible at graphical programming so if anyone is willing to help me I can break it down into the segments I need done.
The actuall content of the game has already been developed, I simply need to write a framework that I can adapt the content to.

Each section should be simple and not require MUCH work.

Wow seriously what the fuck man, have you never used a bot before?
No we won't give you cdkeys, use your own damn keys.
If you own two diffrent games, use one key while you're playing the other, and visa versa
If you don't have two keys, you're screwed.
And before you ask, NO you CAN NOT use your original key and play tft or LOD at the same time, they use both of your cdkeys.

If you have not seen this movie I highly suggest you do.
The ending made me 'What the shit?'

Its a good movie, and really well done. It is 'old' from 2001.

Tabletop Gaming/RPGs / So, Shadowrun yes?
« on: December 20, 2008, 03:07:43 am »
Ok so we played a showdow run game tonight.
We started out the basic, Meet the Johnson, get our objective.

A previous employee of the Johnson's company{altech but nobody bothered to ask} had stolen some tech from them and was trying to sell it to the Triad/Mafia. The mark was a playboy, has lots of parties in his penthouse, etc.. so we go to the hotel next door and fail to get a room on the same floor as the mark. So insted we go across the street and look at the office building, which has a whole 2 rooms being used the rest for lease for REALLY cheap. Like 4,000 nuyen/mo {we would each be paid ~250,000 for the job}.

But instead of renting it, or getting the key {they let us explore any floor we wanted} they did a random floor, and stole the keycard. So me, the decker had to 'hack' it and reset it to the floor we wanted. {all it did was send a RF with the floor # out}. So, we basically we stole a floor of a building.

We setup the base of operations there, I hop on the matrix and run over to the mark's network, steal his porn, and change the guest list to include 2 of our party members. {Killing the decker in control of the apartment building in the process because he detected me :P}
Theres a knock at the door and another person introduces himself as being hired by the Johnson, and we take it at face value and let him into the grupe. {It was another one of our friends playing}

We dress up the elf chick in pretty much a whores outfit and send her off the the party. Along with our rigger for good mesure. The elf was a dumbfuck and goes straight for the mark and trys to talk to him. Which causes him to summon his body guard to drag her out because he dosent know any elves.

But our rigger was able to plant out cameras so I get a live view of all of the place. Then the new guy from above orders some pizza, knocks out the delivery guy takes the pizza and clothing and goes to the mark's place. He gets in. And the mark greets him, ... and they know eachother, it's subtile but meh. "Hey, how you been, delevering pizza now eah?" "Sure you can use the bathroom, you know where it is." I'm the only one who notices this. But, cuz i wanted to see where this went I leave it be.

So, the days pass, we watch what the mark does, he meets with the mob, has a metal suitcase that hes trying to sell to them. So we make up a plan, the new guy would be standing on the roof of the hotel, which is level with the floor the mark is on. I would be in the office we .. aquired.. with my high powered sniper rifle, and the rest of the team would barge in shoot it up and steal the case {we were getting bored} So, the elf mage chick does an illusion and changes two of our guys into the look of the mob bosses.

They head into the apartment building, setting off the metal detectors, and just keep going to the elevators. Before the guards react there in the elevators going up. They walk out... and the real mob/body guards are there. A firefight ensues. One of the mob bosses run into the apartment, right into my line of sight. I use my 12 combat dice to shoot, and explode his head.

One of our other friends is playing the mark's bodyguard. So hes there shooting rubber bullets at everyone because they all look the same. {The illusion charm}

The mark comes into my line of sight and I'm like 'fuck it' and blow his torso out. My teammates take out the bodyguards, except of the PC one, who decides hes gunna fight it out cuz he only sees 2 people. He trys to pellet them, knocking one of them off balance and stunning. The 1st one gets a cop de gra on him at point blank to the head. He survives cuz his skill is cyber. And once again, I say fuck it, And blow his head off from across the street with my rifle :P

After that.... the new guy just drives away on his bike with the case.
....
...
..
.

Turns out, he was hired by the mark to protect the case from us.....

God damnet :P

So, we dont get paied, and he ends up selling the case back to the johnson for 100,000 nuyen.

:) it was fun.

General Programming / 3d Tracking
« on: October 22, 2008, 01:14:54 pm »
I am trying to figure out a way to track an object in a room.
This is a real life object in a real life room.
I have a few ideas I jsut thought of, and need input on.
1) IR Radar
Have 4~ IR Radar devices attached to the object {alright, person}. Have them constantly snagging data about the objects it's close to, preferably the walls. Few downfalls, battery usage will be ungodly immense. Object distortion. If a object gets in the way it could throw everything to fuck. Would require a detailed layout of the room. Wha5t happens if the IR beam hits the wall/object at an angle?

2) Stationary base receivers.
This is pretty much the same thing as the above, but instead of having the receiver on the object it will be in stationary receivers located around the room, using the same principals of GPS systems, except in reverse. Still a lot of battery usage as it is still broadcasting the signal, and there is an issue of things getting in the way again.

3) Stationary base receivers utilizing WiFi
The rig will already be WiFi enabled, it's a requirement for a different part of the system. Is there any way we can use the WiFi signal like the IR from above. Having stationary, know, receivers use the wifi signal for there timings? This has the benefit of saving battery {as its using a system that is already being used} and the ability to go through objects/walls.

I am mainly looking for intelligent ideas. Constructive criticism, etc.. Basically i'm trying to get a (X, Y, Z) point for an object, and if at all possible a heading. But i'm pretty sure that'll be simple using a different device.

I'm looking for a distro of linux, that has support for Toshiba Satellite A205-S5851's wireless card built in. Or a quick way to install the drivers. [my live cd of ubuntu didn't like it :X]
I need to setup dual/tri boot on my laptop. For testing shit. [Vista, Linux, XP, and possibly a ver of mac]
And I need to be able to share files. [mainly music and code :P] I did this like 3 years ago. but I forget and I used Ubuntu which dosent have my drivers built in.

Botdev / Re-writing JBLS
« on: June 10, 2008, 08:19:07 pm »
Well, I hate programming for Bnet anymore.
But, I was looking at JBLS's code the other day.
After dusting a few feet of dirt off of it. I realized, the code is really, REALLY fucking ugly.
So god dammen many useless features. Shit that nobody needs to have. JBLS should just run in the background, no interface at all. A daemon.
So, I *may* end up almost completely re-writing it.
Which is where you all come in, Brainstorm time.

Few core features:
Async packet handling:
-Set number of worker threads for entire server, or set number per connection.
    -Per connection:
Can cause an ungodly amount of threads [100 connections * 5 per connection ...]
Would cause no possible cross-connection backup [lag]
    -Per server:
Low thread count [25 worker threads should be fine, if that]
      Possibility of a queue [lag]
Personally i'm for the per server route.

Checkrevision:
-'Intelligent' guessing. AE: packet 0x09 you only get the archive number. Take a guess based on product for the current one in use by battle.net.
-Multi-threaded, The MAIN lag time of JBLS is in the crev, Namely lockdown. But having 2-3 instances of each crev classes loaded means 3 crevs can be run at once. Once again this could be set num per server, or one instance per connection.
-Lockdown, Dear god this needs to be improved. we NEED a faster way of loading the files. A more efficient way. JBLS with all files loaded into memory for Lockdown uses 85~mbs of memory. Unacceptable.
-Inheratance, v1, v2, and v3 of checkrevivion are all exactly the same, cept, v2 introduced padding, v3 introduced 64-bit unsigned ints. Having one core v1 that handles u64s and simply replacing the readFile() function. [thats what its called now] would save a SHITLOAD of room code wise.

Administration:
I, Will leave that to the outside user. I *might* make JBLS extensible. AE: make helper functions [reloadConfig, setVerByte, blah blah blah] leave others to make there own plugins for it. Oh, hell, I could make the eintire server selfcontained and have things like config files, statistics, etc.. in plugins.

Main thing that pissed me off about working on JBLS back in the day was that I was stupid, I jsut kept adding shit into it. I never really defined the CORE of JBLS and had everything round it. [Though the code I ave now, unreleased, is a bit better at doing that]

So, should I make it plugin sytyle ala JavaOp? This then involves the question of threadding. If a plugin registers that it will handle packet X, and then a client sends 2 X's in a row. The threads would split, 2 would pickup the X packet. Race for the single instance of the handler, And then have to queueup again. Is this big enough of a concern that I should do something about it? How about, when a plugin registers a packet handler, each worker thread createa a subthread. Then again we get into an ungodly ammount of threads.

I know there is a simple way to do this, I jsut am not seeing it.
Also 1/2 this thread was me talking to myself, but feel free to chime in.
As you all know my MAJOR downfall is planning things out to be clean/efficient.

General Programming / DLL Injection
« on: April 05, 2008, 01:19:20 am »
Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can make a 'persistent' dll?
What I mean is a situation like this:
I inject my dll into ProcessA
ProcessA creates ProcessB
My DLL Auto-Injects into ProcessB

Right now I'm simply using the CreateProcess(target, start_stopped)
CreateRemoteThread(my dll)
ResumeThread(target thread) Mehtod.

On a slightly unrelated note, Anyone happen to know how to get the size of a process in memory? [exa: I want to search only X Process's memory space]
