Yeah, washing your hands is definitely important, especially if you shake hands with somebody or touch stuff touched by others.

Which is every other minute...

Actually, I think there's a confirmed US death now.
114 reported cases of swine flu, 1 death (a toddler).

Apparently, the toddler was Mexican.

Thank god.  Now we just need news organizations to explain to the amazingly large amount of stupid people in the world that you don't get the flu from eating pork.
And like a fool I believed myself, and thought I was somebody else...

But the flu DOES originate from the pork industry.

The whole reason the meat industry lobbied them to stop calling it "swine flu" is because it hurt their profits. That's pretty lame, in my opinion. :)

But it died in America.

That's correct, but it points to the fact that Mexicans may be more susceptible to the infection, for some unknown reason.

However, you don't get the disease from eating pork.

Yeah.  It.  I don't know the gender of the child, nor do I care much.  Since I don't know the gender, I used the neuter.  Are you done being a dick yet?

"it" is the pronoun for objects -- you're thinking of "he/she" or "him/her".
