It was once said that a black man would be president "when pigs fly."  Indeed, 100 days into Obama's presidency......swine flu

One must ask oneself: "do I will trolling to become a universal law?" And then when one realizes "yes, I do will it to be such," one feels completely justified.

Actually, I think there's a confirmed US death now.

If anyone honestly thinks the swine flu is a bigger deal than any other flu: go become an old feeble man and get it and die, please.

I swear, with how much this fucking flu has been played up in the media, you would at least think it's symptoms might be slightly worse than the flu that we had last year... How many people in the US died of the flu last year? 35,000?

1/35,000? I remember that from another thread...

Problem is the 1/20 death rate, with it's fast spreading, and the overall lack of comprehensive preparation except for everyone but the UK.

However, you probably already know this, and are just acting dumb to be funny. This is the humor board right?

You clearly know nothing about it.

The death rate is 7% (normal flu is less than 1%), and the vast majority of deaths are people between 20 and 40. So yes, it's a bigger deal from other flu outbreaks.

The World Health Organization is preparing for a level 5 pandemic in the next 48 hours (moving to level 6, the highest, within a week), and we've been told to prepare for a 30% reduction in workforce due to sickness. If 7% of those 30% of people die from it, that's quite bad.

I haven't followed this at all really, how do you prevent getting it? Up until yesterday I thought this was food-borne.

You get it the same way as standard flu -- touching somebody who has it, touching something somebody who has it touched, getting coughed/sneezed on.

The problem is that the incubation period is a week or so, so you're spreading it well before you know you have it. That's the problem.

personal hygiene.

Yeah, washing your hands is definitely important, especially if you shake hands with somebody or touch stuff touched by others.
