July 22nd-23rd Backpacking Trip!

...this is all assuming the fires have been stopped/contained.  The Gila Forest (where we're going & also the first national wilderness area I believe) has been on fire like 70,000acres worth.  Not sure if its the same area we want to go to, though.

I don't know how to tell some of my friends that they aren't going...because I don't want them to go.  Those 2 girls will just complain & build off of each other & then I'll hate the trip.  Nikki would be decent to have come along without Toni, but together, no, they'd have alot of crap they wouldnt need & someone else would end up carrying...that is ZERO fun.

+ the 1st mile of the trip is decently steep (1000ft change in that mile, the rest is flat crossing the river tho), Toni will complain about getting up early saturday (if we leave town sat mornin it'd be @ 6am unless we spend fri night in the Gila & then get up early & hike down @ 8am), she'll complain about the hike too, grrr.


I hope there is water & no fire.  I haven't been out real camping in a long time.

There's supposed to be a hot spring (not like a pool) but like a shower that you can stand under.  The water isnt hot, only 'warm'...but there are also good swimmin holes on the river I heard.

I just gotta convince people to bring VERY LITTLE (2 pair socks, 1 shorts, 1 shirt, 1 swimsuit, 1 underwear, 2 pairs of shoes, sweat shirt/pants if you want...sweatshirt yeah)
it'll be warm there mostly, but its still like 5500ft elevation

Haha, where I live is 6600-ish feet.  Where dark_drake lives is about the same.

In Cross Country, we had annual meets in Leadville, Colorado, which is 10,000 feet.

The Gila is TOTALLY open & there are no fire restrictions!  I guess they've been able to put out the 70,000 acre fire & its rainned alot there.......COOL!

And what happens if you break your ankle in a hole and you piss yourself in pain?  Are you going to wait for help in pissy underwear?  If I'm going anywhere overnight, I bring nights + 1 number of underwears (IE: for a 1 night trip would bring 2).

I went a week with 1 swimsuit, thats IT, no underwear.  I did wash them out best as I could in the river while wearing them, with soap.
